Last monday, the 25th May, Mary Ellen Mark died. She was this amazing (Magnum) photographer I admired for a lot of years now. She often worked in the underbelly of society, with people who were struggling to survive and had few chances. She had this deep love and empathy for her subjects. She once said: “If it does not touch you emotionally, you’re not going to get your photograph. You have to feel about it and to care about them.“ She did a lot of work as a documentary photographer for magazines, she was a tutor and also a bloody good street photographer. Below some of her great photographs and a link to a youtube footage of this great iconic photographer.
